Bangalore - Immortalized as the Garden City of India, Bangalore, the capital city of Karnataka has been classified as 'A' class city. It's a well-planned city, with avenues lined with trees, a number of parks, gardens and lakes. It also called the Silicon Valley of India, because of the high concentration of IT industry. The founding of the city is attributed to Kempegowda who laid the foundations of this city around 1537 AD.
Vidhana Soudha : This imposing edifice built almost entirely of dressed Bangalore granite is a tribute to Temple architecture. It houses the Legislative Chambers of the state government. It is 46 meter high and one of the Bangalore's most important buildings. Mr. Kengal Hanumanthaiah the then chief minister of Mysore decided to construct the Vidhana Soudha entirely along Indian style of architecture. It has four domes on all the four corners and the four-headed lion, the symbol of Indian sovereignty, overshadows the main entrance. It houses 22 departments and 300 rooms.
Cubbon Park Laid out by Lieutenant General Sir Mark Cubbon this park is located near the Vidhan Soudha and has a number of neo-classical styled government buildings. Over 250 acres of this green park is a joggers & walkers delight.
Visweswariah Museum - Visveswaraya Industrial and Technological Museum is named after M. Visveswararaya the Dewan of Mysore, who was responsible for advancing the technology in the state. One of the specialties of the museum is the mobile science exhibition, which tours the state the whole year round. It contains diverse information on the contribution of science and technology to human welfare and industrial development. Many exhibitions are held there on electronics, motor power. Many seminars, demonstration and film shows are organised periodically on scientific subjects. Bull Temple This is one of the oldest temples in Bangalore situated in basavanagudi dedicated to Nandi, the mount of Lord Shiva. Kempe Gowda built this temple in the 16th century. The magnificent Nandi, 15 feet tall and over 20 feet long has been carved out of single granite rock. Farmers offer the first groundnuts to the sacred bull.
Ulsoor Lake - Kempe Gowda II constructed Ulsoor Lake during the second half of the second century. This 1.5 sq. km lake is dotted with islands, extending over an area of 125 acres. The picturesque lake is located on the Northeastern fringes of the city and is an ideal place for boating and shopping. A Ganesh festival is organised in August / September. It is a major tourist attraction with a boat club, where one can hire out cruises with stops at some of the tiny islands that dot the lake. A place of prominence in the early years of the century, the lake was then known as "Halsur" or "Alasur". It provides a welcome break from busy sightseeing and shopping. One can go for a swim in the nearby swimming pool that is part of the recreational complex near the lake. You can also go to the nearby Gurudwar, the largest Sikh shrine in Bangalore.
